Hurley was a hit as sexy spy Vanessa Kensington in the 1997 Mike Myers spoof Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery. Prior to that, Hurley was best known for her 13-year relationship with actor Hugh Grant; the two split up in May 2000. She hit the limelight at the 1994 premiere of Grant's Four Weddings and a Funeral, where she wore a revealing Versace dress held together by safety pins.
Given roles more for her looks and celebrity status than ability, most of her movies have been mediocre and have flopped at the box office. Apart from two Austin Powers, her other noticeable success was Bedazzled (2000, with Brendan Fraser). She served as the spokesmodel for Estée Lauder cosmetics for many years; in 2001 she was replaced by model Carolyn Murphy. On 4 April 2002 she gave birth to a baby boy, Damien Charles Hurley. Hurley named film producer Stephen Bing as the father; Bing at first disputed the claim, but later admitted paternity.
In April 2005 her swimsuit line Elizabeth Hurley Beach debuted in select Saks Fifth Avenue stores in the United States and Harrods in the UK. She launched a new beachwear collection at Cannes in 2006.
